let's not oversimplify this problem. the best protection for asymmetric flaps is one that will detect problems and Stop or warn when only a fraction of the attempted deployment is achieved. moving the flaps back up is not recommended on some makes and types of airplanes as this may aggravate the problem If there is structural or system failure. There is a high probability that you may not survive this problem using ailerons to control a surface that is about 10 times the surface area of the aileron.

Asynchronous flap deployment is an instant missed approach.  Don't wrestle alligators near the ground. If one/both of the flaps won't come back up  then you get back upstairs and work out what's left of your airplaneand practice flying it up high.  If you can't climb or maintain level flight - then power up/trim it for as stabilized an approach as you can purchase with what you've got left.  It's a crippled airplane and you are a test pilot in this case.   What I see here is a failure to call it out and act decisively.    This is exactly what the SIM is for.

Why didn't he go around? He was about 500 ft below the glidepath and about that much right of the centerline.

Sometimes I get the feeling that airline pilots arent trained no longer. they just drop a bunch of grands on a desk and say "here, gimme a license".

for what stupid reason does NTSB not show the moments before and actual ground impact? something ridiculous like "sensitivity"? obviously the impact and subsequent actions are critical to the investigation.

IF you don't have stable approach....Go around is a must. I don't care if your on the outer marker or 50 ft above the runway. Go around a must.

@ 1:45... "Should I go around?" Should have been an automatic procedure. If it feels unsafe, IT IS! Getting there safe always trumps "on time"

Why the fuck did he kill the throttles I don't get it..all he had to do is keep his speed Up and they woulda made it...and if the flap readings are actual and correct then I'm assuming they didn't retract the flaps when they realized the problem? Or we're they jammed that way cause that's obviously why the stick is constantly to the left

damn good job of the captain realizing they had no flaps. putting them lower would have definitely rolled them over. they should have noted that without the flaps they'd need more speed as well.. and "should i go around?" "YES" would have been a better answer
